Midsummer Fire Festival 2010 is Here

World of Warcraft Midsummer Fire Festival 2010
It's that time of year again. June 21 - July 4th marks the World of Warcraft Summertime Festivities. Well, for me it's the first time at this meta acheivement and it's so far presenting itself as much an annoyance as the Lunar Festival. Anticipate a lot of flying, a lot of riding, and deaths, YOU BET. Even at lvl 80, stealing the opposite faction's flame in the main city usually doesn't bring warm tidings from frustated people trying to juggle and catch 10 torches in a row. One trick is if you die close to the city's flame, just wait for an opportune time, rez and quickly spam to loot the flame. If you're lucky, you'll get the quest item before someone hits you to interrupt. Usually at that point, you might just want to take the rez sickness and durability hit to save some time instead of fighting your body camped way out of the city.

So far, first day of the festival and I've totally completed the Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdom achieves as well as the Ahune and stealing of the 4 cities flames achieve. Outland doesn't seem like it will take too long if you have a flying mount. By the way, Ahune drops 2 Emblem of Frost in the Satchel of Chilled Goods a day. You can also find a wicked staff in the Satchel Frostscythe of Lord Ahune

You also get the added benefit of using the Dungeon Finder to queue up for this holiday boss. Now you can do your honoring while waiting to get ported into the instance automatically. This means you can just 'farm' Ahune for his drops as many times as you want. Just queue up and go. If it's your first time downing Ahune, he drops a shard which you need to turn in. The quest turn in is an NPC at the beginning of the instance. Don't do what I did and leave group, then read that the shard had to be turned in inside the instance. Dungeon Finder to the rescue. Just queued up, ported into the instance, turned in my quest and downed Ahune another time just for kicks.

Seems though that 2010 has removed the Northrend flames from the meta achievement. Woohoo! Much rejoicing.

World of Warcraft Midsummer Fire Festival 2010 Meta Achievement

WoWWiki's Midsummer Fire Festival has been the guide I would suggest if you need to reference something quick and easy especially the Ahune fight if you don't already know it. Fight is pretty simple, melee on adds, kill adds quickly, watch out for spikes, and ranged DPS Ahune. With a geared group, you can keep the ranged on Ahune even though he is shielded and take him to about half health. This will help you end it quickly in Phase 2 when you are dpsing the core, usually downing him before he even comes back up to repeat Phase 1.

The World of Warcraft Official Site has details as well, including the achievements you are looking at doing for the next couple weeks.

Also if you are using Tour Guide, there is a pretty decent guide that takes you through all the flames for the achieve. A little buggy here and there (like marking a flame when you haven't done it yet) so just keep an eye out.
